Use of concordances in the teaching of homonymy and polysemy

Abstract

This work, based on Corpus Linguistics and technology-mediated language teaching, aims to contribute to the knowledge, among Portuguese teachers, of the didactic possibilities that the applications of Corpus Linguistics can constitute for the teaching-learning of homonymy and of polysemy. Then, we will approach concepts that Corpus Linguistics contemplates and we will also present the CINTIL, concordancer that will allow us to obtain concordances of homonymous and polysemic words. In the last part of this work, we will present concrete examples of the use of concordances, in view of the teaching-learning of homonymy and polysemy, demonstrating that teaching through the passive transmission of grammatical knowledge of the language can and should be replaced by practical activities and problematizing, that develop in the students a critical and reflexive attitude about the real linguistic functioning.
