Abstract
Education to citizenship is a pressing challenge nowadays, at national and international level. The role of educators, teachers and social educators as promoters of citizenship in the field of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in particular the “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center, in Cyprus, stands out. The article stems from an initiative promoted by the Department of Educational Sciences and Supervision of the Escola Superior de Educação of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (Portugal), which aimed to encourage the sharing of intercultural initiatives, national and international, in the field of education. Several academic and scientific contacts have been established in the framework of this conference, highlighting the importance of education in the construction of citizenship. The role of professionals and their respective training in the area of education is determinant for the work developed by NGOs, particulary on what concerns the construction of citizenship. This article focuses on the case of the "Hope For Children" CRC Policy Center, in Cyprus, presenting examples of relevant projects in the area of participation and citizenship, highlighting the dynamics implemented on the ground by professionals, namely social educators, and other organizations. The dissemination of these projects, as examples of good practice, duly substantiated, allows the sharing of educational and social initiatives, relevant to the training, intervention and research of professionals in the area of education.
